Ave Fenix

Fenix are Champions of the Apertura (Opening) Tournament in the Second Division of Uruguayan Futbol. Fenix is my local futbol team from Capurro in Uruguay. In the past Fenix have qualified for La Copa Libertadores on two historic occasions while in the First Division.

By winning the Apertura Tournament it places Fenix in a great position to return back to Division 1.  They have become champions with one game left in the tournament after coming from behind to win the game 3-1 against Deportivo Maldonado.

The club were founded on July 7, 1916 by a group of young men, they named the club fenix (Phoenix) after the mythological bird. They wear a violet and white kit, they chose the colour violet to represent eternity and white to represent purity.

In 2002 the club qualified to play in Copa Libertadores  for the first time, a feat they repeated in 2003, but the club were relegated from the Primera División at the end of the 2005/2006 season.
